Of all the 2007 Geritol Tours
(Genesis, the Police, Pink Floyd, etc.) Van Halen's seemed most likely
to end with someone getting thrown off a hotel balcony — that someone, of
course, being David Lee Roth. Mad though he may be, Roth is still a
showman, as proved by his ability to sing a song he wrote ironically in
the '80s with a complete lack of irony in the '00s. Meanwhile Eddie Van
Halen not only has the same guitar chops he had two decades ago, he's
got the same abs, and he even appears to be enjoying his proximity to
Diamond Dave. Just one more reason this belongs on a list of the best
performances of the year.
